Big Tech Randomosity

  • Remember when big technology stocks mattered? It was interesting Friday to see Microsoft slide and Google not do well, and the market shrugged it off. Sure the NASDAQ was down. But it used to be the whole market would slide on that kind of news.

  • Of course, Google did hold the 50 day moving average.

  • Which just goes to show you, don't fight the Fed! Don't fight the trend! People want to buy stocks and that is that. Not just domestic buyers, but I think international money, too.

  • I am still in cash. No summer trades for me yet. I still think there is a correction coming, but I have been wrong so far this summer.

  • I want my pension! You know, it will be interesting to watch Detroit for what happens to pensions. There are many retirees and workers who have been promised pensions, and the question is how will they be paid?

  • Pop Tart ice cream sandwiches. Raise your hand if you want one. *as my hand shoots straight up*

  • The Dodgers won, sweeping the Washington Nationals in the three game series. Unbelievable starting pitching, clutch hitting, and great relief from the bullpen. I think this is what we expected all year as Dodgers fans.

The Google Maps Snafu

Did you read where $GOOG maps lost $AAPL and Foursquare, and Yelp may be next?
Google started charging for high-volume Google Maps users, and Apple and Foursquare have switched to OpenStreetMap.
Apple had integrated Google Maps into iOS, but no more.
How will this impact Google going forward? With iOS dominating mobile computing and outpacing desktop and laptop growth, this is something to keep an eye on.

It wasn't that long ago that Intel ($INTC) was a bellwether for the tech sector. We'd watch and wait for the future guidance and word on capital expenditures, and watch the semiconductor sector fly.

So what happens 12 years later? Is Intel still the leader of the pack?

Intel posted great numbers after the bell.

We'll see what happens tomorrow...

Reposting. I have to be careful with Blogsy on the iPad. It can overwrite an existing blog entry if you're not careful on how you blog. It can also crash and wipe out your temporary work. Needs a little work it does.

    portfolio test 3

How do you do it without borrowing shares? Easily. You buy the appropriate vehicles long. Which is actually a bet that the market will go down. Let me explain. There are investment options that you can buy long that represent an investment that their benchmark will go down. Its the same results as shorting except with traditional shorting you are borrowing shares that you don’t own.

All of the inverse (short) funds, etfs, stock symbols have a counter part for going long.
    1x Beta Inverse ETFs

If you wanted to make an investment that the Nasdaq 100 was going to go down you could do so buying PSQ. PSQ’s benchmark is the opposite of the QQQQ performance.

PSQ - Seeks daily investment results of 1x the inverse of the daily performance of the Nasdaq 100 (or market Symbol NDX.x).

SH - Seeks daily investment results of 1x the inverse of the daily performance of the S&P 500 (or market Symbol SPX.x).

MYY - Seeks daily investment results of 2x the inverse of the daily performance of the MidCap Index (or market Symbol MID.x).

DOG - Seeks daily investment results of 2x the inverse of the daily performance of the Dow 30 (or market Symbol INDU).

RWM - Seeks daily investment results of 2x the inverse of the daily performance of the Russell2000 (market symbol: RUT.x).

SBB - Seeks daily investment results of 2x the inverse of the daily performance of the SmallCap 600 (market symbol: SML.x).

2x Beta Inverse ETFs. Theoretically these investment vehicles produce twice the gain/loss of their benchmark. Its not always exact - speaking from experience.

QID - If you thought the Nasdaq 100 was going to go down, you would buy the symbol QID.

SDS - If you thought the S&p 500 was going to go down, you would buy the symbol SDS.

MZZ - If you thought the MidCap 400 was going down, you would buy the symbol MZZ.

DXD - If you thought the Dow 30 was going down, you would buy the symbol DXD.

TWM - If you thought the Russell 2000 was going down, you would buy TWM.

SDD - If you thought the Small Cap 600 was going down you would buy SDD
